I teach kindergarten students that come from low income families and live in a high poverty area. Most of the students are second language learners so they have many needs. The school tries to provide for their academic and physical needs. When my kindergarten children begin school, most of them are learning a new language. They begin school with little or no knowledge of the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, or real life experiences. The children need many opportunities to help them learn the language and academic concepts through hearing and visualizing.
The kindergartner are eager to learn and get excited when they have opportunity to sit and listen to stories on the rug.
They love to move around whether it is to do motions or to illustrate different concepts. The children need many opportunities to help them learn the language and academic concepts.
The Alphabet Activity Classroom Carpet will provide the students with many opportunities to play games for different language and academic concepts. It will allow the students to sit in their own space so they can listen to the stories. The carpet will provide an area for them to move around doing motions and dances. It will also allow the students to select their own area to sit like their favorite letter or picture.
The carpet will offer them an opportunity to master the alphabet letters since each letter has the upper- and lowercase letters with an easy to recognize picture.
The children will have many opportunities to practice letter recognition and letter-sound association.
