Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For many of our students school is "home away from home".

My students are elementary school aged children.

They are in 1st through 5th grades. All these students have various physical/cognitive disabilities and the majority of these children are considered to be "non-verbal" ( they communicate by using signs and gestures).

My Project

My students need a carpet, giant pipe builders, and a croquet set in the classroom where they can sit down to have social/leisure time with one another. For this group of students, learning with one another through play is one of the best ways to acquire new skills. In the classroom, we would like to develop a "play & leisure" center. The center will include a plum 4' x 6' carpet for students to sit on, an indoor/outdoor kids croquet game and Giant Pipe Builders. The children will use these materials while learning to take turns, share with one another and cooperate in a joint activity with their peers.

With your generous donation, the students in the Bilingual Lifeskills class will enjoy play and leisure while learning valuable skills such as: turn taking, following game rules, as well as exercising their listening skills.
