Caring Cards for the Community

My students need cardstock paper and a cutter to create door signs for senior citizens in assisted living, cards for soldiers overseas, and cards for sick children in the hospital.

My Students

These freshmen love making a difference in their school and community. They plan special events like Halloween Fun Fest, Fall Yard Cleanup to help senior citizens, and Santa Sitters for free babysitting.

They plan the events, create decorations, and bring in needed supplies to make each activity successful.

They are hardworking students who care for others. They learn skills in cooperation, advertising, writing, and decision-making.

Students are from a small suburb of Milwaukee. Many are involved in sports and various clubs at school.

My Project

English students will participate in service-learning activities to improve the lives of the community and to improve writing skills. They will create cards, signs, and posters for the military, senior citizens, and children. The paper and cutter are necessary materials to link students' learning to the community they serve.

Students participate in Santa Sitters and write letters to Honor Flight attendees so they can get mail at "mail call." They create door signs for senior residents in an assisted living facility.

Additionally, students participate as mentors in a Kindness Retreat, and they need these materials for their art projects with the kids.
