Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am blessed with twenty-two, sweet and energetic kindergarten children. I love teaching them and watching them learn so much. They are like little sponges eagerly soaking up everything they can and constantly asking questions.

Although I try to provide a safe, happy and loving learning environment for my children, I know it's difficult for some to forget their problems at home.

I teach at a Title One school where many of our students are living well below poverty level. Many of our children are being raised by single parents, grandparents or foster parents. They learn to live without the luxuries that most of us take for granted. Some have experienced things that most adults cannot even imagine. However, my students are always willing to help and are very loving. I encourage them to do their best at all times and to never give up. These children did not ask to be given the hardships that they have and deserve the best of everything the world has to offer.

My Project

We all know the saying, "There's no place like home". Sadly due to circumstances beyond their control, many children aren't able to truly understand what that means since they don't have a place to call "home."

For many children, school is the only place they are able to eat and feel safe since they are lacking basic needs that most of us take for granted.

I would like for this to be a school wide project and am requesting food items, hooded jackets, sweatpants, shoes and socks that will be available to any child that needs them . The snack items will be used during snack time and sent home with the children as needed, especially on the weekends and holidays when the school is closed. Children should never be cold or hungry.
