Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In order to support our STEAM initiatives, my school is hosting an Hour of Code to promote coding. For one hour on one school day, every student will engage in a coding activity during their science classes. I am in charge of organizing an assembly to promote coding and computer science to our students. As part of the Hour of Code, I am organizing an assembly with a panel of computer scientists for students to talk with and ask questions, Q&A style.

Help me get materials to host a successful career panel for computer science to promote coding!

I am asking for various materials to help decorate for the assembly, and to get fun goodies and handouts to get students excited about coding. The assembly will also showcase cool coding projects that students are working on. In the weeks leading up to the assembly, students will build robots to learn about the application of coding and get hands on experience building a robot. These robots will be worked on after school during our robotics program. The goal with these robots is to have students build them to get experience in hands on STEM learning so that they can join the robotics team.

On the day of the assembly students will play with the Oculus in education Apps while one of our panelists (a coder in audio experiences at Meta) speaks about how it works. We have a panelist who is an audio experiences engineer who will show students how the Oculus works. Later in the year, the oculus will be used to explore learning based apps in history, science, ELA.
