Our school is located in an urban neighborhood in which many families are financially disadvantaged. The students come from a variety of ethnicities.
As my students are beginning their academic career, they come eager to learn--it is so rewarding to see how much they grow during the school year!
However, during this unprecedented shut down of schools, their learning has been disrupted. I would like to provide some hands-on materials that parents can use at home to reinforce reading and math skills over the next few weeks. This is a pretty big ask, but I would love to be able to get these materials to my students and their families.
My Project
Since school has been closed, my students have had the opportunity to access some work online (if they have access) and do work packets for the last week or so. However, I would like to provide them and their families with some fun games that we have used at school to practice sight words, math partners to 10, and attention to detail. I also would like to provide them a fun book to practice reading and to add to their home libraries. I have also requested a couple of snacks that I would like to add to each care package. All of the things I am requesting will be familiar to the children and will make it seem more like school while providing parents to have some great resources for teaching their children while at home. The games and book will be provide some fun educational activities and quality family time. In addition, they would be able to be used for years to come. Due to the immediate need, I am hoping for quick funding from generous donors. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
