Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach urban middle school kids from working class homes with diverse family structures. My students are motivated, talented, hardworking and full of energy. More than half of my students receive free or reduced-cost lunches. They may not be rich with money but they are rich in empathy and willingness to learn. My students deserve a fair opportunity to grow and succeed. They are diverse in their skills and talents. Some of my students think school is more exciting than summer vacation!
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a lesson plan, I know exactly what I want to do. We just need your help in getting the nuts and bolts so to speak. In our Makerspace we have been using hot glue to hold together cardboard to make everything from refrigeration devices to house models that demonstrate holding heat efficiently within a house. I want these pegs so we can build these projects with recycled cardboard and dismantle them when lesson has been learned. I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thanks!
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of engineering, home energy efficiency and insulation techniques.
By implementing the unit students will love science while learning important concepts.
