As we begin our unit on body systems, the model provides a hands-on opportunity to see how organs fit to scale inside their bodies. They can remove and replace organs, offering a memorable, lifelong learning experience.\r\n\r\nThe model also helps students connect structure to function—for example, seeing the heart's placement relative to the lungs clarifies how oxygenated blood flows. Being able to visualize how the organs fit inside their bodies makes and abstract concepts easier to understand than textbook diagrams alone.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the model supports collaborative learning. Students explore each body system in small groups, discuss observations, and ask questions together. This teamwork builds communication skills, deepens understanding, and sparks curiosity about health, biology, and potentially, a future career in science!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\\","fullyFundedDate":1756610648031,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-human-anatomy-to-life-with-a-3d/9609520/","projectTitle":"Bringing Human Anatomy to Life with a 3D Model","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Nadig","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9781402_orig.jpg?crop=480,480,x0,y80&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727393545052","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9781402"},{"teacherId":5700206,"projectId":9627082,"letterContent":"When I was able to tell my Drama Tech class that this project got funded (and within four hours!), they were absolutely ecstatic! These headsets will be used by the students in this particular class, but they will help the quality of all the productions we do at our school for years to come. \r\n\r\nThese headsets are used for students to communicate with each other from the backstage to the booth when in tech rehearsals and performances. The student stage manager calls their cues over the headsets to the light and sound board operators and to the stage crew backstage. The students can quickly let each other know if something is not right or a cue is coming up. And the students get to feel like real professionals when using this headset system.\r\n\r\nWe are so excited and grateful that your donation made this project happen so quickly. The students in the drama tech class got to try out the headsets to learn how to use them and experience what it's like to talk with others over the system. My students were able to learn about groundwater contamination, some of the ways that regulators track the source of that contamination, how to use a diagram to track increasing concentrations of pH, and most importantly, how to conduct an investigation.\r\n\r\nWe used this experiment as a part of our unit on climate change and human impact on Earth. Along with a series of other activities designed to look at the ways our actions impact Earth's systems and resources, students got the opportunity to explore cause and effect on a global scale. Sixth grade is such a great time because it marks the beginning of students' abilities to look beyond the personal - to go from \"if I do this, I'll get a reward (or get in trouble!)\" to \"if we do this, this will happen to everyone, and that will cause this whole series of other things to happen!\"\r\n\r\nUltimately, we used all of this learning and experiences to create sustainable communities. Your thoughtful contribution has made such a positive impact on my students, who range from general education to those in moderate to severe special day classes. As a speech therapist, it's crucial that we individualize all therapy and lessons to meet each student where they are, and the toys and materials you provided have been perfect for this. The kids are thoroughly enjoying learning new skills like sequencing, labeling, identifying categories, comparing items, and mastering colors and shapes. It's truly amazing to see their excitement and growth as they engage with these hands-on resources.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has made a difference in the lives of these students, and your support is helping to create an environment where they can thrive. Students can observe that an object's mass and volume ratio determines whether it sinks or floats by comparing blocks of different materials and sizes. Hands-on experiments with density blocks allow students to measure mass, calculate volume, and determine density, connecting abstract calculations to real-world outcomes. Visualizing how objects interact with water reinforces the principle that denser objects sink while less dense ones float.
