This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In today's world technology skills are crucial. While the demand for these skills increases every day, my students' access to technology does not. Despite shrinking school budgets, it has become critical for us to provide students with opportunities to practice these skills in the classroom.
My students are smart children who express an interest and curiosity for technology.
They are constantly asking about the latest gadgets and suggest ways we could use them in the classroom. Unfortunately the ever-shrinking school budgets do not allow for the purchase of new technology and at large schools like ours, what we have is usually shared by more than 30 classrooms. Our school is in the inner-city where donations and fundraising are limited. Because of this, it is only through the generosity of people like you, that make these opportunities possible for my students.
My Project
My class is asking for a digital camera with memory cards and a tripod to use for class projects. With these materials, my students will be able to add photographs to their expository writing like real journalists, explore visual arts through photography, learn to upload and edit photos on a computer, practice importing images into documents and slides, record presentations, review their oral reading fluency, and document special school events and classroom activities to share with their families. The variety of skills that my students will learn from these materials will increase engagement during learning activities, give the tools for self-led learning, lead to the discovery of unknown interests and talents, and will better prepare them for a college-bound future and the 21st century workforce.
By supporting this project, you will be directly impacting the lives of my current students and of my classes to come.
You will be enabling them to acquire important skills while increasing their interest in learning. In an area where the high school drop-out rate is alarmingly high, instilling a love for learning in our students at an early age is increasingly important. Thank you for your interest in and support of our project.
