Third Graders in my classroom participate in a wide variety of activities. They are responsible for learning very difficult concepts across the curriculum. They are ready to try anything. Their whole day is just lesson after lesson. Every interaction, every task, and every new chapter gives them a chance to learn something new.
They love to show what they know!
Once they struggle through their initial frustration, they have profound confidence in what they can do. Wouldn't it be great to freeze their third grade world in time?
My Project
For 180 days, third graders live the elementary experience. While some things only happen once, video in the classroom can capture these once in a lifetime events. Each year, my students demonstrate their learning. Using smart phones and video cameras, we are able to document any curricular area on which we want to focus.
What used to be put on VHS tape or CDs, is now shared on flash drives.
When we create a video in the classroom production, we need a way to publish it to our intended audience. Some projects can be put up on You Tube or Vimeo to be streamed, but we can protect the privacy of our young students by providing families this time capsule directly.
