Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in grade 5 love book clubs! When given the opportunity to collaborate, students love to share their feelings about characters in a story. They make connections to their own life and often have very good advice for the characters they read about. Students also learn valuable life lessons through examination of theme.

Although our community has high needs and it has been a struggle to have all students reading on grade level, students do come to class with a desire to improve.

My Project

These books will be used as part of our 5th grade book club and will reach 85 potential students. Students love to read a variety of books and it is necessary for each child to have their own copy to reap the benefits of independent reading.

Students love coming together in circles after reading a chapter and will be able to share their interpretations about the theme, characters, setting and plot.

Learning new vocabulary through reading is also a very big part of our book club strategy. The goal is for each and every student to continue their love of reading.
