This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How would you reach students who need to develop positive reading attitudes when you don't have resources? My wonderful students are vivacious, young readers who are curious about the world around them but don't have multiple resources to use for reading in order to create a reading attitude that will carry them into the future.

Our students were recently affected by Hurricane Harvey and lost most of their prize book possessions.

Our school is a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving reduced or free breakfast and lunch. The lack of life experiences for most of our students can be made up in the pages of a book. Right now, our students are at the age where a positive reading attitude will take them to the next level!

If my students want to flourish in school and beyond, then I must show them how reading can take them places.

My Project

For our intermediate students, the ability to use a digital device such as a Chromebook with headphones and a microphone opens up a world of reading to even the most unmotivated reader. Most of our students lost their personal books in the hurricane so they can't bring books from home to school to read. The headphones allow our students the capability to read books and respond with their own voices while their teachers conduct work stations and small group reading.

The most unmotivated reader becomes motivated when they know a digital device can be used to read and respond.

During our free time to read, we can use the headphones and microphone to partner read a text. Many of our lower leveled readers enjoy sitting with a partner and reading together or listening to the book read by a great reader and then get to respond with the microphone.
