Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright, funny and creative. Many of them have never had boundaries or adults that pay attention to their needs. My students love technology and we embed it within all disciplines in the classroom. When I tell the students that they can do ANYTHING if they work hard and use their noggin, their face lights up. Just believing in the students gives them a sense of community and belonging. Many of my students start the year at below grade level in reading. We push literacy in every subject. Reading and writing are at the forefront of each subject we teach. In our classroom, we are self contained so we teach ELA, math, science and social studies to the same group of kids. They usually come to school in the first week without any supplies. We are a high mobility campus so we get new students throughout the year. They come with no backpack, pencils or supplies.
My students are eager to learn, willing to grow and excited to understand new things every day.
They are suddenly in a situation where their voice is heard and we protect them in every way.
My Project
I am requesting these materials to give my students greater access to technology and hands-on learning. The headphones allow the students to focus on lessons on their chromebooks and not be easily distracted by classroom noise. We will use the library cards to help with our check out system within the classroom. We want literacy to be at the forefront of learning. By providing a classroom library, the students can read and grow daily.
I have requested classroom supplies to help the students every day to stay organized and on task.
They come to school with little or no supplies. They have no ability to provide notebooks or pencils or any other supplies. We will also use the materials to make privacy folders and create a welcoming, safe community for the students.
