Capturing Community and Creativity Through New Musical Instruments
Help me give my students the opportunity to connect with each other as they learn to use boomwhackers, gathering drum and cajon's to create, explore and understand the world through a musical experience!

My Students
I teach music in a small, older public school. Many of my students are high needs and live in income restricted apartments. This means that my kiddos are very limited in their exposure to music inspired activities. My classroom helps provide a window into the bigger world and multi-cultural communities. Where, through music where we create, perform, explore and learn to appreciate outside of our own little world. In order to help them with this, a variety of materials and instruments are needed in the classroom.
Covid forced nearly half of my school to learn from a computer and severely limited their interaction with all that the music classroom has to offer.
Being able to provide a variety of materials and instruments for them to use to learn about and explore music is always a tough endeavor with so many of these things being expensive.
My Project
These items will help my students achieve multiple National and Nevada academic Content standards by creating an interest in the lessons provided that will engage their senses with fun while promoting higher-level thinking. For example, the following standards touch upon the many aspects of music learning:
MU:Pr4.1.1 With guidance, sing and play instruments
to age-appropriate literature.
MU:Pr4.1.2 With limited guidance, select and discuss
personal interest in, knowledge about, and purpose
of varied musical repertoire.
MU:Pr4.1.3 With limited guidance, listen to, sing,
perform, and respond to music concepts (such as
pulse and melodic contour) in selected repertoire.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
