My students need a comfy location with bean bags, and more books on their level which are not provided in our current library collection, to enjoy reading and focus on their learning.
This is my second year teaching full-time, I love my students! All of my special education students have a learning disability, which creates a greater struggle for them, especially in their learning environment. My students are focused and determined to accomplish their goals, some big, some small. Reading seems to be a great struggle for them. I focus on the importance of reading in our lives! When a student asks me why they need to read, we start with their hope to someday drive, taking a driving test requires reading or filling out an application for a job. We need reading for many different aspects of our lives!
My Project
My Special Education students have been labeled struggling readers in the past. My student's are in the Special Education Program which means their disabilities can create added challenges tp their reading. My students need an environment that will allow them to focus and not become distracted. Rather, an environment that will allow them to stay focused, and comfortable. I would like a few cozy chairs, and some classic reading books on their level to create an independent learning environment. I would like to purchase good classic books from a variety of genres for my students to choose what interests them.
When students find the right book, they fall in love with reading!
I want to create a location in the classroom, where my students can go and comfortably read. This reading nook will transport my middle school students through their books to another world. A world where hopes and dreams will come alive through their books. My students can travel anywhere in the world in one day through their books. I want my students to discover a love for reading. Reading is an important academic skill we all need for the rest of our lives!
