This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I remember being in school when I was a student wishing my teacher would find a way to make education interesting and fun. When I became a teacher I vowed to do that for my students. I try to enrich every lesson by introducing them to things they have never been exposed to and tie into our lessons.
My students are amazing!
They come to class with this energy that is incredible. I happen to teach in the gifted program so I constantly challenge them with lessons beyond the curriculum, and they meet those challenges every time. Their grade level ranges between second, third, and fourth but one thing that remains the same between all of them is the desire to learn and do well in school. Sometimes our textbooks do not have enough information in them so the students stay hungry to learn more about a given topic. I try to enrich the learning experience by introducing them to things they normally would not be exposed to, for example taking them to a recording studio after a chapter on sound so they can see how a song is made and record their own song. Aside from their attitude for school they also are extremely respectful and caring, they ask you about your day and how your family is doing. My students truly are a special group of kids.
My Project
Technology has become almost as important in our classrooms as books. Enrichment and relevance of lessons is essential to keep the students engaged. Throughout the school year I like to give lessons to these students that tie in the things they experience in life with what is taught in the classroom. These resources will help tremendously because the student will be able to explore a different side of education. By using a video recorder to film projects and activities then editing those projects will give students a type of experience that can even lead to choosing a career path. I have my students go throughout the community with surveys, awareness projects, and assistance programs all the time if they are able to film that and then share it with other students and even other schools who knows how far their word will travel. Students learning from other students is something that makes teaching great.
My project is important because it is not a one time thing it is an ongoing thing.
Students will be able to use these items with so many different lessons and multiple subjects. One thing I have learned as a teacher over the years is that students perform at their best when the lessons have meaning and these items will give meaning to a lot of lessons.
