My Students

My students are amazing. They make me smile every day. Despite the crazy life we have had these past few years, our students are still working hard for their education. They are dealing with new societal norms, that we have never had to deal with before, and they are handling it like champs. They motivate me to work hard and to enjoy my time teaching.

I have diverse group of students with different socioeconomic backgrounds, who deserve to have fun and engaging activities to learn technology.

I want them to have actual hands-on experiences, rather than simulated ideas.

My Project

We have great video editing software, but we don't have great images and videos to work with. Students are passionate in sharing things about themselves in their work. I love learning about students through their work. It helps me to relate to them better. Because of district filters and copyright protections, students often can't create the work they envision.

Creating their own videos will allow them to be vested emotionally in their project, allowing them to enjoy and showcase the things means so much to them.

It may seem that students have cell phones to record their own activities, but many do not. For different reasons, many 7th and 8th grade students do not have cell phones. I want all my students to have the opportunity to participate in creating "real" videos, rather than scraping together what they can from scarce resources.

It is great for students to work in teams. They have so much they can learn from each other and it is good for their emotional well-being to socialize with other students. Video recording opens the opportunity for students to work together to complete a project.
