Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic kids eager to learn. Over 90% of our students come from low-income households. A large percentage of our families meet the definition of homeless, living in garages or multiple families in one residence. My kids' parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. And yet, our children still want to create, read, write and learn!

My students are excited to come to school to explore, learn and grow.

I am working to meet my students' needs emotionally, as well as academically, especially during this pandemic. I want them to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn language arts, math, science and social studies.

My Project

My students are learning how to draw and express themselves with open-ended art projects and directed draws. I would love to have quality, strong, multi-use paper and blank canvases for my students to create their works of art.

White sulphite paper is strong and versatile for many art mediums, which will allow my students to create wonderful works of art with oil pastels, chalk, watercolors and tempera paint.

This paper, at 80 lbs., will resist the urge to roll and curl.

I'd also love to have my students create their own self-portraits on canvas in acrylic paints. Their parents and families will treasure it for years to come. I have the acrylic paints in rainbow colors. I am asking for skin tone colors. We have learned a lot and now, we are ready for the canvases.

After learning how to create works of art with directed draw from shapes and hand movement, my students will be given these blank canvases and instructions on how to create their self-portraits on canvas with pens and paints.

My students' parents will love and cherish these self-portraits and artistic paintings. Thank you for considering my students for your donation.
