Candles for Collaborative Clay Lantern Lighting Learning Celebration
Help me give my students each their own tea light to use for their hand-built clay lantern and to use in a school wide celebratory lantern lighting ceremony to culminate our school's learning and success for the year.

My Students
The students who will be serviced in this project are from our middle school which filters in from the entire community and hosts all of the 7th and 8th graders with the large population of 950+ students. Even those students who are not enrolled in Creativity and Critical Thinking will have that chance to participate in the activity, though 95% of the students do.
When there is such a diverse population of students who have different backgrounds and interests, it's important to create opportunities to bring everyone together.
Art and Town Hall Meetings at our school are two such opportunities to make that unity happen. Everyone will be able to take a moment and feel connected and hopefully carry on that memory on their own.
My Project
The art teachers at our school wanted students to create art that could mean more than just the process but also celebrate something bigger. Students in our whole school created clay lanterns in art to be lit at the culminating learning celebration in May and these tea lights will be used for each student to have at the school-wide Town Hall Meeting.
Not only will students use the tea lights collectively, but students can individually use the lights as a symbol to keep lighting their learning inside their home-made lantern they created when they take it home.
This project is a reminder that one person is unique and important but also the collective unity of our school is even stronger and more luminous together.
