Students will be using the blank canvas as a way for them to explore different mixed mediums. Students will be using a variety of experiences and resources to make art that culminates into something important for them. When individual students get time to reflect on what it is they need to focus on in their life and can use art to explore this, it's not just about the end product on the canvases being supplied, but the learning in the process.Using art as therapy is not an uncommon technique for adults, but it is not often focused on in school. With the push for mental health awareness and providing students with ways to cope with their life struggles, providing these select at-risk students with this opportunity is important. Students will be using various art mediums and topics depending on their interest but the skill level is not the most important but rather the benefit of their own awareness to their own life experiences and how they feel about them. Students will hopefully gain some insight from an adult with extra one-on-one time, and a therapeutic break from their day to day routines at school.
