Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Did you know Einstein became curious about math and science and a very young age. The next Einstein could be sitting in my classroom today, but has not yet been given the opportunity to explore science in a hands-on way.
I teach a group of fabulous fourth graders in a farm town.
I have a large group of boys and a small group of girls in my room who are curious, inquisitive, and anxious to get out of their seat to learn. Anything I can do to get them thinking outside of the box always yields amazing results. I didn't touch a microscope until I was in 8th grade. I would like my students to interact with some scientific tools that may peak their curiosity in science.
My Project
I picture students in every corner of the room, lab coats and goggles on, referring to each other as "Dr. So-and-so" while they discuss the odd materials seen at a magnified view. Well, all that can happen (minus the lab coats and goggles) as my students use microscopes to exam slides, compare and contrast what they see, and learn about science the entire time! This project will allow my students to get a hands-on feel for what our science says.
This project is so important to my class because with the implementation of the new Common Core Stat Standards, we are encouraging students to prepare for college and career through informational text and activities.
These microscopes will e the highlight of my STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program in my very own classroom.
