Students collaborate to build structures, experiment with balance, and explore shapes in three dimensions. As they work together, they practice communication, problem solving, and perseverance. I have seen students learn from mistakes, adjust their designs, and celebrate their successes. These activities support early math and engineering concepts while strengthening teamwork and critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic letters kit has been a valuable addition to our literacy instruction. Students use the letters to build words, practice phonics, and explore spelling patterns. Manipulating letters allows students to actively engage with reading and writing concepts instead of only working on paper. This is especially beneficial for students who need hands on support as they develop early reading skills. The letter board encourages participation and makes learning language more interactive and meaningful.","fullyFundedDate":1766439700598,"projectUrl":"project/stem-thinkers/9919122/","projectTitle":"STEM Thinkers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mendez-Camargo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3511636_orig.jpg?crop=1042,1042,x870,y300&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1656021896656","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsmendezcamargo"},{"teacherId":3511636,"projectId":9950190,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our first grade classroom. Seeing their joy and engagement reminded me how powerful hands-on learning can be for young children.\r\n\r\nWe used the mini horse erasers to learn about the Year of the Horse and to talk about zodiac animals. Students wrote and drew simple letters and pictures to place inside red envelopes, practicing fine motor skills and early writing. In the dramatic play area, students used pretend Chinese food to learn about different foods, family meals, and how chopsticks are used. They also explored the people figures to talk about families, similarities, and differences, helping build respect and understanding of other cultures. During read-alouds, students listened closely, learned new vocabulary, and talked about Lunar New Year traditions and celebrations.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue learning by creating Lunar New Year art projects, retelling stories through play, and practicing new words during small group activities. First, the students were so excited to see the magnetic tiles after I put them in the baskets we ordered for them. They were able to play with them at first since they were accessible and were comfortable with how they fit together before moving onto the actual assignments we had planned. As for the sensory bubblers these were used during an assembly. My students require fidgets to sit through long assemblies and these four were instantly a hit. In fact, they served another purpose than I originally planned and promoted sharing. My aides would rotate the new beloved sensory toys during the course of the assembly to not only make it fair but promote sharing.\r\nAs for how we have utilized the magnetic tiles academically was in various ways depending on the levels of my students. First, I have a student who sorted the tiles by color independently. Then, we reviewed/learned our shapes. The students thrived with the hands on tiles as we reviewed shapes and also their descriptions. We moved from show me a triangle to show me a shape with three sides quickly.
