This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The atmosphere in the music room during my chorus rehearsals is intense and exciting. We are singing, moving, listening and learning as we explore and make music from familiar and unfamiliar genres. These predominately Hispanic fourth and fifth grade students are highly motivated to master the skills being taught and move on to more complicated repertoire.

These young musicians are hungry to perform and show what they can do.

They don't realize that they have generated a momentum to make school a more enriching environment and place it at the center of our community. This momentum has inspired parents and community partners to volunteer for and sponsor the music program.

My Project

Currently, there is only enough space for 30 chorus students on the risers on our stage. I cannot in good conscience limit the chorus to 30 members because of space constraints when there are 50 students that passed the audition.

These 50 talented young people have earned the right to be a part of this ensemble and should be showcased.

Having an additional riser will ensure that every performer will be seen by the audience, especially when joined by our guitar and string ensembles seated in front of them. The additional riser will also assist the students with seeing their conductor (myself) during performances, thus ensuring that every performance is a stellar one!
