My Students

I am a Title I Reading Specialist. I work in a K-2 primary building. My kids come from poor and under developed neighborhoods. Most of them do not come from traditional family settings. They don't have a lot of stability in their lives. I want to create an environment that welcomes and embraces them and one in which they feel comfortable. I want them to enjoy and look forward to coming to the classroom.

I work with small groups of kids.

It is a small building. There are only 3 classes each of K, 1 and 2. I will work with about 5-7 kids at a time. I want my room to be inviting and charming for them. I want it to be a place that stands out from the other rooms in the building. I want them to be excited to come to the reading room.

My Project

I have taken on the challenge of being the Title I Reading Specialist in my K-2 building. I am thrilled to begin this new adventure! I want my kids to enter the classroom and get excited about reading. Many kids get apprehensive about being in special classes. I want the classroom to be so appealing and entrancing that every kid wants to be in the Reading Room.

My request to Donorschoose.org is simple.

I want to have an a classroom that is inviting, charming and appealing. My room has an outdoor, camping theme. I want the atmosphere to be relaxed and carefree.

I am asking for a few practical and functional items to enrich my theme. I would like to have a small, indoor, children's tent. We can sit together inside the tent to read our theme and decodable books. Kids love tents and inside structures.

I would like to have a green area rug to represent grass. I will make a fake campfire to place in the center. Again, this will be a space in the room to do small group reading.

I would like to have rainbow colored stools for my work tables. This is the area in which we get into the daily grind of Word Building exercises. I have great ideas to make these exercises fun and enjoyable, but I think the bright colored stools will put a smile on their little faces.

I would greatly appreciate any help that is offered!
