Please help me give my students a voice in their learning!
I have a diverse group of students who face different challenges when it comes to learning. In a class of 24, I have 7 ESL students, 3 of which are non-English speaking, 7 Title I Math students, 9 Title I Language Arts students, and 3 students who are diagnosed with ADHD. As a teacher in a low-income district, resources are often limited. Unfortunately, this affects both me and my students. Students learn best when they are involved in their learning, and even more when they are held accountable. I want to encourage participation with a microphone, so students' voices can be heard as they share their strategies and ideas in the classroom.
My Project
I hope to improve the participation and focus of my students with classroom microphones. My students and I try to rise above aural distractions, such as the humming air-conditioning unit, the clatter of students hustling through the hallway, and a lawnmower buzzing outside our classroom window. For most kids, using a microphone in class is about as fun as it gets. But there are plenty of other benefits, too.
Microphones can help promote language articulation, develop public speaking skills, and provide an incentive for active participation.
A classroom microphone can help raise student achievement, increase students' attention, decrease teachers' voice strain, and aid in classroom participation!
I am also asking for mini-staplers for my students to continue with their interactive notebooks, without going through dozens of glue sticks that usually end up dried due to a missing cap. The convenience of giving each student their own mini stapler, would save time and money!
I would love the Guess Who? games to create a Math game where students guess the multiple using factors. Or a Literacy game where they guess the story character based on character traits. The possibilities are endless!
