Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a high poverty school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch! I have high expectations that they will grow and learn beyond what is expected. We are learning skills such as robotics, coding, and typing along with our curriculum. School is a safe and happy place for my students. Each day, they come into the classroom excited about the day and spending time exploring and learning together. For many of my students, being at school is the best part of their day.
My Project
We would like one set of 12 good quality headphones to go with our 12 Chromebooks that we use daily for science, math, reading and social studies instruction. The students use the headphones with a reading and math computer program that helps them enhance their learning. The headphones will help them to have a quite experience. It can be hard to hear or be distracting to those around them without the proper use of headphones. They enjoy the computer, Chromebooks, and iPad very much, but it can be very distracting with 22 devices talking at the same time!
Technology is a major source of communication and learning for our students.
When students are using iPads or Chromebooks, it is most helpful for students to have headphones so they can concentrate on their independent work and allow others to work successfully around them. The headphones will allow students to work on improving their literacy as well as their math fluency.
The other device we would like are headphone splitters. These will be a great help when students are working in small groups or with a partner. The splitters will allow up to five students to work together on one device and for everyone to hear with their headphones.
Headphones allow students to focus more on their learning goal. Students who use the headphones can pay more attention to what they are doing, whether it is with iPads, computers or Chromebooks.
