Ms. Whitman from Oklahoma City OK is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need school headphones to help them work on their computers in class without distraction. This will allow them to focus on assignments in large classes and work at their own pace.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our school is a combined middle and high school that serves grades 7-12 in a urban area. A majority of our students are lower middle class and live in single parent homes or live with relatives. Due our 80% rate of free or reduced-price lunch we are a Title I school and receive grants to help us offer a high quality education. The graduation rate is 85% with a majority attempting college or vocational school. Many will be first generation high school graduates.
My students are in need of a classroom set of headphones! Due to the high needs of my school, I have been able to acquire, through grants, a classroom set of Chromebooks. These are a very valuable resource, but without headphones there are limits placed on the materials I can assign.
Not all students learn best with just reading and writing; with these headphones I can expand my curriculum to include more material such as songs, videos, interviews, and news reports using the Chromebooks.
Furthermore, because each student will have their own set of headphones, they will be able to learn at their own pace. I can better individualize a student's learning by assigning different websites or lessons without distracting others around them.
Not only can students check out more learning material, they can create their own. Students will be able to edit short films, podcasts, or other projects to make them the masters of their education. Please consider donating to our project to elevate my students' learning opportunity.
