My students need audio books! They often need to listen to what they are reading to help with retention and understanding. The books include "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas," "What My Mother Doesn't Know" and "Stargirl."
How many times have you seen students walking around with their earbuds in? They constantly are choosing to listen to their world. To this end, more and more students are requesting audiobooks from the school library. Let's give it to them!
Our school library is the busiest in our district and each day we see over 300 students, minimum, come through our doors!
While the general population of our students is high achieving and college bound, we have a population that also needs extra help with their reading skills. Both our English language learners and Special Education students are frequently asking for the audiobook version of either their in class novel or their outside reading book. While we have most of the classroom novels, we are severely lacking in audiobooks that are contemporary and geared towards the Young Adult crowd. Please help us! These kids are eager and willing to learn and improve. How can we not support that?
My Project
Imagine being a teenager and moving to a brand new country, barely knowing the language, or the nuances of high school culture. Or imagine thinking that you're "not good at English" simply because you need a few extra resources to be successful. It's scary and heart breaking to think about, but that's what my students are facing. We want kids to want to read, but to do so they need confidence. Providing audiobooks to accompany their education will help students learn English faster, understand the text better, and in general, help propel them further in their high school careers. An audiobook is a simple way we can help them be successful!
Contemporary novels available in audio format is a dream come true for dozens of our eager students.
Let's not hinder their confidence, or their rate of progress simply because the budget of our state is dismal. We can help our students be successful, one book a time, one word read aloud at a time. Thank you for your consideration and support. We THANK you!
