Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a PreK-5 urban school which houses over 600 students. Our students come from many different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds resulting in a very diverse population. My students enthusiastically come to school every day ready to engage in the day's learning activities. They look forward to seeing their peers and interacting with them throughout the day.

Second graders continue to build firm foundations in literacy through phonics, vocabulary and comprehension instruction.

They are working towards transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn. This is where we create the structure for their future learning success.

My Project

My students work on computers daily during Literacy Centers. The programs that we use have an audio component which requires them to use headphones. Second graders can be tough on these essential tools resulting in frequent repairs which leads to loss of instruction. We have gone through several types of headphones that quickly succumb to their daily use.

Quality, durable headphones will provide my students with hours of use while maintaining their intended function and usefulness.

Our students face increasingly difficult academic rigor with the Common Core State Standards. Access to the computer is essential for them to be competitive in the academic world. Quality headphones will help them to achieve this goal.
