I teach a wonderful group of 4th grade students in the bay area. We are a Title I school where more than 50% of our students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. Most of our students are the first generation to be raised in the United States. The majority of our families come from the Philippines, India, Vietnam, Mexico, and Middle Eastern countries. Many of our students are also educating their parents, and teaching them English when they are not at school. A large percentage of these children will be the first ones to attend higher education universities in their families.
Our school has been around for more than 40 years and we have many parents and even grandparents that now have their children attending our school.
My Project
In my classroom we will be trying different models of personalized learning. In these models students have ownership by making a plan from a variety of options to enhance their learning on a topic. There is an emphasis on voice and choice, goal setting and accountability.
I want my students to take in information as it relates to them.
Having headphones to access content at their level, will help them to achieve personal goals. I can differentiate content by sending students articles, videos and practice that is in a format catered to their needs. With 31 students working on different content, they will need headphones so they can concentrate on their work and listen privately on their devices. I also think the ability to have an echo dot they can ask to replay directions, or ask questions to will also allow them to work at their speed and not have to wait for teacher support. Lastly, we need a pocket chart organizer to hold all of the new headphones!
