Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! Most of my students live in a high-poverty neighborhood. They are hard-working and love to see the progress they make through their own hard work.
I teach in a high-poverty, urban school district.
Most of the students at my school come from bilingual homes and receive bilingual or ESL education.
I teach math and science to general education and ESL students in 3rd and 4th grade. My students and I work together to make connections to the subjects we learn in the other class to solidify our learning.
My Project
Headphones are on our school supply list, but most of our students come from poverty-stricken homes and cannot afford to buy headphones. On the other hand, some students bring headphones, but they break easily, or simply stop working early in the school year.
My students use computers during almost every subject in school, however, a lot of them do not have headphones.
I teach young children who are still learning to read, or working on comprehension. For my struggling readers and dyslexic students, it is crucial for them to hear the problems being read aloud. Having working headphones will help all of my students be more successful in school.
I see my students spend a lot of time sifting through all the old headphones I have available in my classroom. It is a loss of instructional time, and sometimes there are no working headphones available.
