My Students

I have worked in Tukwila School District for seven years starting out as a Para Educator. Currently, I am the ELL (English Language Learner) teacher at Tukwila Elementary School. I work with students from all around the world. It is truly the most rewarding job I've ever had.

My job is to work with the students who are brand new in the United States and are learning how to speak English.

I have the opportunity to partner with students who represent a variety of cultures and unique backgrounds. The best part is it's the students who teach me !

My Project

My ELL students will be taking the state ELPA21 test next Fall and Winter. This test assesses how well students can listen, speak, write, and read the English language. Many of these students are brand new in the U.S.A. The test is done on computer and requires the students to listen to questions and respond both by choosing the correct answer as well as speaking and recording the correct answer. To enhance students test taking skills practice with the equipment i.e. headphones prior to the actual test is vital. Our district has three elementary schools that all share the same testing materials including headphones. Sharing the headphones means that we have to coordinate our testing schedules including the pre-test practice time. This often results in limited practice time. If our school could have it's own set of headphones with microphones, necessary and adequate practice time would be ensured. These headphones would allow us to meet the needs of our students and ensure optimal success on the test.
