Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students learn more than simple sports skills in my classroom. They learn to collaborate, practice responsibility and resilience, and build skills they'll use in all aspects of life. These learnings often require processing and discussion.
Unfortunately, our movement lab (aka gym classroom) isn't set up for discussion, and all too often, students can't hear me or one another.
We share our gym space with another school, divided by a vinyl curtain. So while the curtain divides the space visually, it does nothing to prevent sound from traveling to "the other side." Imagine discussing sportsmanship with 20 students while another group is playing a game of tag 20 feet away. It's taken quite a bit of digging and experimentation, but I've finally found a solution that will allow students to hear me and each other without "blowing out" the teacher and students on the other side of the curtain.
This project funds the infrastructure and four speakers needed to start producing sound locally in students' workspaces. The speakers selected will connect to the Wireless Mic system I already have on hand (RODE Wireless Go II). The Go II system has two mic inputs and will allow students to use a mic to address the class when needed.
