Can You Hear Me Now... Recording in the Elementary Classroom

My students need to be able to record and hear what they have recorded on their iPad or Chromebook while working within a busy and noisy elementary classroom. These phone handsets will work make that possible.

My Students

I am the Instructional Technology Specialist in Virginia Beach, VA. I work with our five Kindergarten classes by introducing them to technology. Our Kindergarten program is a 1/2 day program that includes 100 students. Students attend either the morning or afternoon session. Students are introduced to literacy (reading) and math skills. For part of their day in Kindergarten, students rotate between stations set up around the classroom. While students rotate through the stations they are about to practice basic skills that they are learning. At the same time, the Kindergarten teacher is working with small groups of children on reading and math.

Our school is often overlooked for funding because we have good test scores and we aren't in the neediest part of the city.

Our school is a neighborhood school with a student population from diverse social-economic groups. At least 41% of our students receive free and reduced lunches. We have a caring and motivated faculty and staff, who always put our students first. As the Technology Specialist, for my building, I have often dipped into my own pocket to purchase technology equipment for my students to use because the school budget was so tight.

My Project

It is often difficult to record on an iPad or Chromebook, from within our classroom, because of the normal noise and activity of an elementary classroom. Using earbuds and the built-in microphone have not been very successful for my students. Their recordings often include noise and sounds from the classroom.

Using a phone like handset will make a recording so much easier for my students.

They will be able to hold the handset to their mouth and record easily and they will be able to hear what they have recorded without any of the outside noise from the classroom causing interference.
