As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. When they walk in, I want them to feel special and know that I am all-in for their success!
This year, third grade was blessed to become one to one at our school. My creative scholars are so excited to be able to use iPads in order to do projects and interact with their academics in a more 21st century way! Unfortunately, our headphones have fallen apart due to years of use, and we now have some students that have to go without. Getting a class set of headphones would benefit everyone as they work on their projects. These tiny scholars have a lot of potential, and them being able to focus on just their projects will make them even more successful!
