Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher for a low-income, high poverty school, I face numerous challenges, one being to make learning and reading meaningful.
My 18 first grade students come to school every day with smiles on their faces and an eagerness to learn despite language barriers or a stressful home-life.
My students are spunky, funny and give their all when learning something new. They are the happiest group of kiddos with a powerful drive to succeed.
My students inspire me every day. I strive to give them my absolute best every single day because they deserve nothing less. Every time they came up to me after having mastered a new skill or strategy, the look on their faces is absolutely priceless. It is a look of triumph and pride because they know they are succeeding. It is a look I hope to see every day from each student because I believe in them with all of my heart.
My Project
My students have been blessed with more access to technology than ever before. With that, we have a very real need for headphones and computer mouses. Since the start of the year we have had 18 devices on at once with their reading and math programs. This means that it is loud and distracting. Having enough headphones for all will help them to focus on their work and not get distracted by their neighbor. I try to utilize computer mouses with Chromebooks to help students get used to using them, especially since they have to use them during standardized testing.
