Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Since school closures, distance learning is implemented and it comes with a learning curve for my students and myself. Our school did not have enough technologies to distribute to every student. One of them did not get technology and only half of my class has some for learning technology at home. However, continuity of learning needs to take place regardless. Now, my living room is my classroom and the only tool I have is my laptop. All my teaching materials are at school! Although I have provided my students with a variety of online resources, I need tools during my lessons with my students on Zoom.
Continuity of learning needs to take place to ensure that all students have the skills they need to succeed in the following school year.
Therefore, it is very important that I have the resources to help them grasp the concepts and skills they need to succeed in the next school year.
My Project
Since the school closures, we started implementing distance learning. My living room is now our classroom! I have to use my laptop to Zoom with my kindergartners, to ensure that I help them continue to learn and acquire the skills they need to succeed in the next school year. I've never used the built-in camera from my laptop prior to distance learning and didn't realize the quality of the image is not very clear. When I show a sample of an activity we are working on, my kiddos can't really see the details. I hear myself constantly asking them, "Can you see this?" and "Can you hear me?" Having an HD webcam will definitely be a game-changer. Since it's HD, the images will be much more clearer for my kiddos to see and it has a built-in microphone. When I use the webcam, I will use the webcam cover to block my laptop's camera to reduce confusion during our Zoom meetings. Another thing I hear myself constantly asking them is, "I can't hear you, sweetie!" The AirPods Pro will be used during our Zoom meetings so I can hear my kiddos clearly.
Seeing and hearing from their teachers provides young people comfort and consistency amid the disruptions caused by school closings.
Please support this project so I can have the tools I need to give some form of normalcy to my kiddos and help them continue learning. I know if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they will succeed.
