My 6th graders are enthusiastic and resilient problem solvers that come to school each day with smiles on their faces, despite the challenges they face at home. My school is located close to the Mexico border and serves a high poverty population, many of them being English learners. The school provides free breakfast and lunch for all the students. Many of them spend their weekends in Tijuana with family, but dedicate all of their time to the learning we share in our classroom. They share my enthusiasm for discovery and especially for science!
I work hard to provide everything they need to be successful, but with the help of generous donors, my students can have access to materials that I am not able to provide on my own.
In our classroom we value a strong sense of community, collaboration, and appreciation for each other. I make sure to provide learning opportunities that will help them become well rounded citizens of the world and they work hard to be active participants in our classroom!
My Project
My students often ask to stay inside during recess. Sometimes it's because of the heat, but often it is because they do not find the options outside appealing.
I'd like to offer students who want to stay inside, educational and entertaining game options.
So far, if students stay inside, they hop on their laptops.
There are many games that students do not have experience playing. Classic games like Jenga and Mancala are my personal favorites. Newer games like kinetic sand appeal to my students who need sensory stimulation. Apples to Apples help expand my students' vocabulary. Suspend and Snap Circuits allow my students to think critically and problem solve.
I am excited to bring these options to my students and want to thank you in advance for your donation.
