The awesome students in my class come from a Title I school where funding is very hard to come by. Poverty is extremely high in our school. Teachers are forced to spend their own money on materials in the classroom. Considering the backgrounds that these students have with having special needs, their miraculous motivation to learn is absolutely amazing! These kids never give up and are willing to put in the work they need to.
These students are an amazing group of special needs students from 2 classes who are eager to learn and strive to do great things!
They are extremely eager to learn and change the world around them! I see great futures in their eyes as they have many problems they want to solve!
My Project
This project holds the key to understanding Math....through reading books! A lot of times, Math is taught strictly through the skills/drills and books are never even looked at in a Math class. Special needs students continue to struggle to understand the strategies and skills, when reading a book is the key to help them understand!
With this project, you are putting books in the hands of special needs students to help them understand Math skills.
With books such as, " Sir Cumference and All the King's Tens" by Cindy Neuschwande, she teaches students how to understand place value and the value of counting by tens. With a story in place, students would grasp this skill so much more efficiently. Let's put books in the hands of kids in more than just a Reading class! Let's put books in the hands of kids for Math class too!
