I teach 4th grade at a Title I STEM Magnet School. I want to introduce my students to the 21st Century way of learning in the classroom and implement the "T" in our STEM focus. Since funding has been cut, I am hoping you can help!
Almost all, 93%, of my classroom students are low income and living in poverty.
Our school has such a large poverty rate that we have recently been funded with a four year grant for free lunch and breakfast for the entire school.
They have very little money for food, much less a computer. Our district is moving towards technology based classrooms, and the kids are EXCITED about it. They love technology. Now where does the funding come from to get it into their hands? I am hoping you are the answer to that question!
My Project
Our district is trying to create 21st century learners, by implementing Bring Your Own Device into the classroom. We are all excited about this opportunity. Unfortunately, many of my students do not have their own device to bring and use in the classroom. I would like them to have access to new technology in the classroom. I want them to "own" the device in the classroom. I want them to see the value in global learning. With the engineering activities and projects we are working on in class, they need access to a computer with printing capabilities. Currently there are only 5 working printers in our school that they have access to on a daily basis. They are also located in different parts of the building and when attempt to print, we are left running back and forth around the school to reload, remove a paper jam, or find the document that someone has taken to their class. It is a HUGE time waster.
I am requesting one HP laptop computer and printer.
The one laptop will allow access to Air Printing for each of the Chromebooks in the classroom. Using this laptop computer will allow them to expand their learning and interact with others in different schools across the states. The printer will allow them to print their projects and retrieve them with ease. With a computer and printer in the classroom, I can expand the world around my students and engage them in 21st Century learning.
