I teach special education at a rural high school that has an enrollment of approximately 525 students. We only have five special education teachers. This means we teach all exceptionalities and nearly every subject.

In class I have students who are on modified diploma and lack the skills necessary to be successful once they graduate high school. This is our first semester since I've been teaching that we have students on modified diploma. The materials we have in the classroom are 4-6 years above their reading level and confuse them more than anything. We have no materials for students who function on a lower reading level.

The Real World Reading series offers high interest activities and teaching strategies on a level that coincide with my students' reading level. They can learn about maps, bills, credit card statements, job applications and many other real world situations.

Being successful on your own can be a challenging task, especially if you do not read well. You can help give my students the tools they need to be successful once they graduate, which is my number one priority.
