My students need three Kindles to engage in technology-driven programs and to reinforce classroom learning. They will use them throughout the day across the curriculum.

My Students

We are in need of educational apps! We live in beautiful Hawaii but the cost of paradise is high for many of my students. Most of them come from disadvantaged households and have little access to technology. I would like to provide them with the opportunity to learn and be engaged on modern day devices.

My students are from diverse ethnic backgrounds and have low socioeconomic status.

80% of our entire student body is on free or reduced price lunch. Over 90% are from ethnic minority groups. We are a small, country school located on the island of Oahu. My students are simple kids, they enjoy getting outside and playing, being with family and friends, going to the beach, and are passionate about learning. Although they have access to laptops in my classroom, the equipment is older and is not compatible with many of the awesome touch-screen apps available to educators today. Most of my students do not have computer access outside the classroom walls so I would love to be able to provide that to them at school.

My Project

If I secured the Kindles for our classroom, I would use them as a daily learning tool, rotating my students through Kindle learning time as part of our daily morning routine. In addition, the Kindles would be used as incentives to students who complete assignments early, or to assist with group projects. Additionally, I will use the Kindles to target specific learning disabilities of my special education students and/or ELL students.

Having 3 Kindles in my class would keep my kids motivated and engaged and would increase their performance on tests and help them develop self-confidence and 21st century skills to survive in today's technological-driven world.
