My students need to relate the regular math classroom to coding and engineering.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are in an inner city school are eager to learn. They desire to become successful in many different endeavors after high school. They just don't have access to all of the tools needed to prepare them for that success.
Too many students are not pushed to become exceptional!
I would love to be able to produce more exceptional and successful students!
Society is competitive with jobs in all fields; I need them to have a solid mathematics foundation.
I do not have the cookie cutter student. I have students that need to visualize the math and experience the math. Drawing lines on graph paper or using a graphing calculator alone is fine but it is not exciting as moving around the classroom, the school, or outside. Many times the teachers are trained to differentiate the classroom but are not supported with the supplies that are needed. Our students struggle in mathematics because it is one of the sciences that does not have regular laboratory assignments but yet the students are required to sit for 90 minutes.
The Texas Instruments calculator accessories will allow the students to compare their actual movements to the math lessons.
Their movements can be turned into code using the TI Innovator Hub and breadboard. To get the data of their movements, the TI CBR 2 Sonic Motion Sensor and the TI Ultrasonic Ranger Module will track the movements and download them into the graphing calculators.
Their are many options for students to code outside of the mathematics classroom. Not all of the students will take computer programming or will want to stay after school to be in a robotics or coding club. I want to give them an option of learning basic coding and incorporating it into the "regular" mathematics classroom. This will allow my students that need stimulation in this social network society to get off of the Internet for instant answers and have a enriching experience in mathematics.
