It is really tough to shoot compelling interviews with cameras that utilized internal microphones. Currently, our school has either cameras that have internal mics or are outdated and do not work with our current software.
The media technology classes at our school are taught throughout middle and high school.
It gives the students the opportunity to be creative in a digital platform. The projects assigned range from simple jump cuts to elaborate public service announcements. The amount of creativity that the students express through video is truly amazing.
My Project
These cameras have external microphone inputs, which will allow the students to use handheld and lavaliere microphones in their productions. Currently, the cameras we use have internal microphones that pickup every noise that surrounds the camera, which can hurt the grading of project if too much ambient noise from the school is included in the video.
We have students that wish to interview our athletes, coaches, other students for projects and it makes it difficult to record properly without a microphone that is external to the camera.
The eventual goal is to make video announcements and to set up the classroom as a "newsroom." The addition of these cameras will make this an easy transition.
The students will be able to express their creativity digitally in a much easier fashion.
They will be able to interview and create quality video projects that they can be proud of.
