Students are learning to confidently make food for themselves. This is a skill that will last them a lifetime.\r\n\r\nThey loved learning how to use knives safely and cut food into proper cuts. Julienne, cube, batonnet, dice, chiffonade - they can do it all and they are proud of it. \r\n\r\nPracticing cooking methods become something the whole campus was envious of as they smelled the awesome scents coming from the classroom. Some of my students favorite dishes had to deal with cheese - macaroni & cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. One would think that of course teachers all have their own classrooms, but the reality is that many teachers share classrooms or are mobile instructors due to limited space or large class sizes. Having my own permanent space now allows me to keep my student's art on display for longer time periods, materials properly stored and stocked, and create an area of comfort vs. one of uncertainty.\r\n\r\nManaging our Yearbook production as well as teaching classes means I have an expansive amount of materials and gear that needs to be stored and kept in proper and accessible conditions. Having had rotated rooms prior, I never knew if my items would be able to remain in their same storage area as the year before., so this classroom gives me confidence that our school materials will stay in peak condition for thousands of young artists to use.
