Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you sat at a desk and heard "blah, blah, blah, blah." It didn't mean very much and I was never able to relate it to my own personal future. With the use of a laptop, these children will get how the standard will help them achieve their academic goals.

Most of our students live in poverty.

Ninety eight percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch. The children need to see something other than failure. This will give our student a thirst for success. They have learned how to create power points and have even learned to upload their photo. They come early so they sign up for their computer time. Some of the students sneak over to other classrooms at lunch and recess to work on their power points. They understand that the writing process involves revising and a lot of hard work. More importantly, they feel success with each additional slide created.

My Project

By providing the students with access to another computer, we will be doubling their opportunity for success. I have always believed that a hands-on approach to education is far more powerful than lectures. With the small group, and the laptop will provide easy access to the content standards that is required by the state of California. This will inspire and motivate our students. That is the biggest challenge teachers encounter each day.

This will make a difference in the students this year and the students I will have in the future.

A lot of our children are asking their parents to take them to our local library for more computer time. The children need to have technology skills. This will give them that opportunity.
