Do you love movies? I do! And so do my students. What we'd really like to start doing is learning how to make them. Our computer lab has iMovie so that we can create short films, and we just need a camera and tripod to help us do the filming. We have had one camera funded, and would love another!
We have a very diverse population at our school with a large percentage of students who receive free or reduced lunch.
Our school is warm and full of creative kids. We have many enrichment opportunities for our students, but film making is not one of them. This leaves all of our students, regardless of access to digital cameras or computers, lacking a skill and opportunity to increase their storytelling.
My Project
With the donation of a Nikon Cool Pix camera, tripod to keep the camera still, and memory card, I will be able to incorporate simple and fun film making into art class and a morning art group of motivated students. We will be able to create a variety of film making with a camera instead of simply a camcorder, such as stop motion films, which seems like an easy way to get into animation. I encourage story telling in my art classes, and this will bring their stories alive in a way that we haven't explored yet!
Film making is expensive and time consuming.
Most students in our school do not have access to equipment to create a film or the family support and time to create a film. With this camera, tripod and memory card, we can put our computer lab to more extensive use. More importantly, we can have a heck of a lot of fun creating some short films! The possibilities are endless, from documenting events that happen at school to creating unique short films. Thank you for this opportunity!
