My classroom is in a selective enrollment math and science academy on the south side of Chicago. My students are historically underrepresented but are highly motivated, and love to explore topics in great detail.
My students love to engage with the world around them, and push themselves to do amazing things in their science classroom.
I want my students to be able to explore science and foster their curiosity for the world around them. This is difficult at times with the supplies we have.
My Project
We will be going remote for the first quarter in Chicago. My colleagues and I have spent the summer planning curriculum, to make this adjustment. This is a huge shift. In the classroom students experience hands on investigations every week. What is missing from our curriculum are quality videos of lab demonstrations of the labs, to show students what they would be completing in the classroom.
These materials will allow me to create videos of demonstrations, as we attempt to mirror the experience students would have had if we were in the classroom.
My hope is that the videos will help students learn and feel like they are a learning community.
