Half of my classroom is also used for student breaks and sensory needs. It's a popular place for both my students and others in nearby classrooms who just need to escape. We have a soft couch, fidgets and stuffed animals the students use daily. I have a jellyfish light the students are mesmerized by. I have lamps for soft lighting, but only one really gets used.
I want to improve this space to provide the calm place many students need to escape to when they get overwhelmed.
The timer outlets will be perfect for me to set all of our soft lighting lamps to so we don't have to use the harsh overhead lights. Since they are programmable, they won't be left on overnight if I forget to turn them off. These have the ability to program half of the outlets and leave the other half on all the time, which is a wonderful feature. They will also protect our electronic items plugged in.
Imagine laying on a plush blue rug surrounded by soft lights and sounds. Bean bag chairs are the most comfortable seats for my students to relax in. They can cuddle in and feel safe, play with a stuffed animal, or read a book. Lava lamps and other sensory lights will help provide that calming environment we are looking for. I can't wait to transform this space!
