A few of my students are whole-word readers. They might know letters and sounds, but they don't know how to sound out words or put letters together to create words. They rely on visual memory of words they have seen with repeated exposure. Edmark does this in an engaging way on the iPad and each student follows their own program at their own pace. \r\nI want to share a story about one of the students who recently started using Edmark. I have been working with a student for 2 years. I have tried just about every OG reading curriculum out there, and he still couldn't blend a CVC word consistently. Towards the very end of the school year, I started a new trial of Edmark. He said it was easy. Great! We worked on 5 words in about 2-3 weeks. Summer happened. Today I showed him the words one by one to see where to start him this year. He knew every single word we learned (stopping at exactly where we left off) AND could string them in phrases and sentences! I was so excited to have found what finally works that I took a quick video of him reading and sent it to his mom. She was excited as well and that student's confidence about reading has improved. For him, this project is the difference between struggling to read and gaining confidence in reading as he adds more words every day.","fullyFundedDate":1747648267866,"projectUrl":"project/word-dog-time/9288730/","projectTitle":"Word Dog Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Modrow","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4495212_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569786536722","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/heather-modrow"},{"teacherId":4495212,"projectId":9368548,"letterContent":"In my classroom, we use a lot of games and hands-on activities.
